The Guest Book is expired.
Allie Ray Bowman passed on August 21, 2013. Allie was liked by many. He was generous and gave a helping hand whenever he could. He was born in St. John, Kansas on January 6, 1917. When he was growing up he traveled from farm to farm with his father working as a farm hand while he also attended school during the Great Depression & The Dust Bowl Drought.
After he graduated from high school he then joined the Navy in 1939 just in time for WWII. After a 20 year career with the Navy he continued with the Naval Reserves for another few years while attending San Diego State. He graduated with a BA in Industrial Arts. He was extremely talented with woodworking and taught many students in the Watts Area of Los Angeles, CA during the 60's. After 17 years of teaching he retired in 1981.
He lived with his wife Jacquelin & daughter, Debbie in Cypress and has been there since 1969. After 45 years of marriage Jacquelin passed away from lung disease.
One would see him playing golf with his buddies at the Naval Golf Course in Cypress. Allie also enjoyed cycling 15 miles daily throughout his 70's. Bridge and Cribbage were his games and he was good at them too. What a guy!
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie, and two granddaughters, Kayleigh & Lacota Cooper and a sister Doris Weeks of Russell, Kansas. We are happy for Allie who has crossed over to a better place at 96 years old. He lived a full and happy life.
We are happy for him but sad for us as he made this a better world. He was one of the last of The Greatest Generation!
Memorial Services will be held at Forest Lawn in Cypress on Tuesday, September 10 @ 2 pm.
