Benjamin Edward Bensinger III passed away on Saturday, June 29th, at his residence in Beverly Hills. Best known to his friends as Ted, Mr. Bensinger was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 27th 1929. He earned his BA from Yale University and an MBA from UCLA. He was a Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve before starting his business career as Branch Manager for the Brunswick Corporation - which was founded in 1845 by his great, great Grandfather, John Brunswick. Mr. Bensinger went on to work for several financial companies including Dean Witter Reynolds and Lehman Brothers. He was a dedicated philanthropist, and served on the boards of numerous organizations including the Santa Monica Conservancy, Yale University, UCLA, the Los Angeles Zoo, the George Page Museum, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was also on the Board of Governors at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. There is a waiting room named in honor of Mr. Bensinger at Cedars Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute in recognition of his generous time and support. Mr. Bensinger was a devoted sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He owned race horses and a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A once avid golfer, he won the Bob Hope Golf Tournament as an amateur in 1966. He also loved to travel and to spend time at his home in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where he was fondly known as "Mr. Ben." Mr. Bensinger is survived by three sons, John, Kerry, and Tyler, as well as six grandchildren and his two brothers, Roger and Peter Bensinger.
There will be a funeral service for Mr. Bensinger at the Westwood Presbyterian Church at 10822 Wilshire Boulevard on July 14 at 2:30 with a reception for all to follow.
