July 25, 1918 - January 21, 2014 Carl Gordon Jones, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, passed away at Saddleback Memorial Hospital on January 21, 2014, after a brief illness. He was 95 years old. He served in Europe as a flight navigator during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal and Air Medal. After the war, Carl met Inez Lott, his future wife, an Air Force nurse, and they traveled the world, accepting assignments in Europe, Japan, and the Philippines. Carl rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and Inez to the rank of Colonel. They eventually retired to Gig Harbor, Washington. In 2000, Inez, passed away and in 2005, Carl moved to Southern California, at the urging of his nephew, to Sunrise Senior Living in Tustin, and later to Inn at the Park in Irvine. Carl is survived by his nephew, Paul D. Jones II (Julie), nieces Cheryl Quadrelli-Jones (Roberto), and Sandra Graham-Jones (Tim), great-nephews Paul, Donald, and Aaron Jones, Alex and Marc Quadrelli, Andrew DiSalvo, great-niece Emily Jones Marchetta (John) and sister-in-law Shirleen Jones. A memorial service will he held Saturday, February 8 at 2:30 p.m. at Fairhaven Memorial Park, in Santa Ana, CA. Carl will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, in Washington D.C.
