October 31, 1917 - June 17, 2014 Valery Shapiro died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, June 17th at the golden age of 96. Born in Bismarck, North Dakota, she was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and graduated with honors from University of Minnesota. Beloved wife of nearly 50 years to Jesse Shapiro, MD, they ultimately made their home in Encino, CA. Valery was our rock. Educated, witty and fiercely independent. An avid golfer in her day and ardent bridge player to the end. We will love her forever. She is preceded in passing by her husband, Jesse, and her sister Florence Ziedman. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Shapiro & Bruce Shapiro, brother Marvin Osman (Patricia Osman), granddaughter Abby Hacohen (Ron Hacohen), grandson Jesse Shapiro, and great-grandchildren Olivia & Ben Hacohen. Services will be held on Friday, June 20th at 11am at Hillside Memorial Park & Mortuary in Los Angeles (800) 576-1994.
