Inger-Jane (Inkie) Thorsted Keen, born May 26, 1926 to Jens Thorsted Wacher and Erna Kjargaard in Santa Barbara, California, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend to many. Inkie grew up in Trona, a small company town in the Mojave Desert where her father was the Chief Mechanical Engineer at the American Potash and Chemical Company. Because there was no secondary school in Trona, Inkie attended Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles and then went to UCLA. She met her husband Stuart in Trona following World War II; they married and moved to South Pasadena and later to Pasadena, where they lived on South Marengo Avenue. Inkie worked as a volunteer at the Pasadena Dispensary at the Huntington Memorial Hospital and was then an Assistant Administrator at the Pasadena Dispensary. She later worked at Vroman's Bookstore as a popular sales clerk for almost 25 years. Inkie was active in the Assistance League of Pasadena and as a volunteer at Kensington Manor in Alhambra. She loved her Book Club, "The Reading Rainbow" and her Garden Club, "The Compulsive Gardeners" that met each week at the LA County Arboretum. She is survived by her husband Stuart Alan Keen, her daughter Lise Keen, her son Darby Keen, and grandchildren Katy, Palmer, Dennis, Carly and Joanna Keen.
Services will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at The Church of Our Savior, 535 West Roses Road, San Gabriel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The City of Hope, 1500 E Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010, www.cityofhope.org.
