Irma Franklin, age 103, passed away on October 1, 2012. Irma was the second of seven children born to Orel and Etta Franklin in Atwood, Kansas in 1909. She attended business school in Columbus, Ohio before moving to Long Beach, CA in 1937. She moved to Westwood, CA and attended UCLA were she earned a Business degree in 1946, and a Masters degree in Business Administration in 1948. She taught Accounting at UCLA and Business at nearby Marymount College before spending her next 19 years dedicated to the youth of the Los Angeles School District, mostly as a teacher at Venice High School. Irma retired in 1969 and moved to Leisure World. She spent the next 40 years involved with the Laguna Woods Village library where she served as a volunteer, board member and Director. Irma was named a "Life Member" of the Laguna Woods Historical Society and earned a Certificate of Merit from the National Audobon Society. Irma is survived by her sister Veau Dell Prochazka; nieces Myla Collier, Becky Isern, and Carol Hebele; and nephews Lyle Franklin, Gary Collier, Chace Prochazka and Aaron Prochazka. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the National Audubon Society.
A memorial service will be held on November 11th at 3pm at Clubhouse One, Laguna Woods, CA.
