1927 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
September 14, 1927 - October 22, 2013 Jack S. Gillette of Victorville, California, age 86, died October 22, 2013 in his sleep after a short stay in the hospital due to a fall. He is survived by his four children, Jacqueline Louise Bree, Robert Knox Gillette, Michael Phillip Gillette and Christopher Brian Gillette. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jessica, Anna, Sara, Kari, Jaimie, Jonathan, and David, and by 5 great grandchildren, Lindsay, Trevor, Dillon, Austin and Autumn, and two brothers, David and Donald Gillette. Jack was graduated as an electrical engineer at the University of Michigan and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While living in Carlisle, MA, he and his wife Roseanne built a home, which they occupied before moving to California in 1959. Jack worked for several large government contractors including McDonald Douglas, Ford Aerospace, Autonetics and TRW. Several of the notable projects he was involved with over the years included the Disneyland Monorail, the lunar lander and Titan missile project. He consulted with the German government for their space flight program and was an advisory to President Reagan for the missile protection shield. Jack was very involved in the Boy Scouts even becoming one of the first den "mothers" and then Scout and Eagle Scout leader. He led a 7-day backpacking trip along the Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains. He really enjoyed the outdoors camping and backpacking, hiking and cross country skiing. Later he began biking long distances including one trip from Fountain Valley up to Hearst Castle and back, and several to San Diego to visit family and a ride to San Francisco. Among the many hobbies he enjoyed over the years were rock hounding in the California deserts, coin and stamp collecting as a young man and gardening. Jack as a father wanted to always pass on and teach whatever information he could impart. We all have a love of the outdoors and gardening from our father. He will be missed. There will be a private service on November 8, 2013 In Forest Falls, Ca. Please make a donation to The Boy Scouts of America in lieu of flowers. To contact the family please call Jackie 760-805-1134
