John Thomas Tromblee passed away peacefully Monday, May 27 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a protracted battle with interstitial lung disease. He was 51.

The middle child of three born to Gene Tromblee, a chemical engineer, and Donna, a registered nurse, John was born in Beaumont, Texas. He excelled in gymnastics and horseback riding, and loved movies, the theater and popular music. The family eventually moved to Houston and John attended college at the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Broadcast Journalism, was a basketball cheerleader, and an active member of The Longhorn Singers.

After graduation in 1985, he worked as a news reporter in Texas, then moved to New York City to pursue acting and became a participating member of the Screen Actors Guild.

Soon California beckoned, and John, who had a long-standing interest in psychology, enrolled in a Master's program in Marriage and Family Therapy at The California Family Study Center/Phillips Graduate Institute in Los Angeles. Excelling in the program, he received his degree in 1993.

An avid classic car and roller-coaster enthusiast, John nonetheless found his greatest passion and deepest fulfillment working with special needs children at the Working With Autism agency, where he remained until the advent of his illness.

A kind, thoughtful, and empathic man, John generously donated to Project Angel Food, KCET, and other notable organizations.

John Tromblee immeasurably touched the lives of everyone he encountered and he will be sorely missed.

He is survived by a sister, Jody Young, her husband David Young, nieces Amye Rappé and Sara Young, and a nephew, Alex Young.

He is preceded in death by a brother, James Scott Tromblee, and parents Gene and Donna Tromblee.
