Loretta Lindholm Obituary

June 7, 1931 - July 31, 2014 Beloved wife and mother Loretta Catherine Lindholm, of Los Angeles, California, passed away from cancer on July 31st, 2014, surrounded by her family. Born at the old Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California on June 7th, 1931. Loretta was raised in Mar Vista, California until age 12 when her parents moved to Holmby Hills, purchasing their family home from actor Spencer Tracy on Holmby Avenue. Loretta raised her five children with husband, Dwight Henry Lindholm, in Hancock Park during which time the family of seven took a year sailing sabbatical to the French Polynesia June 1982 - July 1983. In 1993, Loretta retired with her husband to their second home in Channel Islands Harbor, California. Loretta spent the last 34 years donating her time to the organization she held close to her heart, National Charity League, Los Angeles Founder Chapter. Loretta was the oldest of seven children born to the late Vernon and Harriet Brown. She was the beloved wife of Dwight Henry Lindholm who she married August 29, 1958. They have been married for 56 years. Loretta's beautiful positive attitude, enthusiasm for life and radiant smile will be remembered forever by her five children, Douglas Dwight Lindholm, Dionne Louise Cooper, Jeanne Marie Deranja, Philip Clayton Lindholm and Kathleen Ann Hennigh. Her special hugs and lively laughter will forever stay in the hearts of her 13 grandchildren, Cora & Ida Lindholm, Randall & Chelsea Cooper, Josephine, Loretta (Lulu), Bozho & Dwight Deranja; Henry & Kelly Lindholm; Hunter, Hudson & Heather Hennigh. After attending UCLA in the 1950's, Loretta held various clerical and leadership roles at her father and mother's factory Associated Pacific on Lincoln Boulevard in Venice, California. With over 300 employees during the Second World War, the factory manufactured tail assemblies for the B17 and B29 fighter planes. After the war, the factory continued in airplane military products then branched out into auto parts for General Motors and Ford. In their early years of marriage, Dwight and Loretta were active in Republican Party politics holding both county and statewide offices while living at 330 S. Westmoreland Avenue. In 1972, they moved to 255 South Rossmore in Hancock Park where they lived for 25 years. During that time Loretta was on the Board of the Hancock Park Homeowners Association for 10 years serving as Vice President the last 2 years. It took her 7 years, but she got installed the ornamental street lights in Hancock Park and received a Los Angeles City Council commendation. In 1972, Loretta and Dwight bought a beach house at Silverstrand beach, Channel Islands Harbor which they still own and have resided as their primary home for the past 20 years. June 16, 1982, Dwight and Loretta left on their 51 foot sailboat for the South Pacific with their 5 children, then ages 13 through 22 years. 26 days at sea going down to French Polynesia and 40 days at sea returning July 15, 1983. From their 5000 square foot home on Rossmore in Hancock Park they went to 500 square feet on the boat. Loretta's years of service to National Charity League Los Angeles Founder Chapter included: Provisional 1980-1981; Ways and Means Director 1984-1985; NCL 4th VP - JCL Coordinator - 1985-1986; NCL Treasurer 1986-1988; NCL Provisional Coordinator - 1989-1990; NCL President - 1990-1992; Advisor to the NCL Board of Directors 1992-1994; Member of the Advisory Board 1992-2014; Advisory Board Chairman - 1997-1998; Member of Budget and Finance Committee; Member of NCL Insurance Committee; Member of NCL Adult Group Etceteras; Member of Coronet Patronesses. First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood was a central focus of Loretta's life with membership shortly after marrying in 1958. Loretta was active in many leadership roles such as General Co-Chairman with Dwight in the Hollywood Easter Service Committee at the Hollywood Bowl 1972 and 1973. Loretta touched the lives of many people with her huge beautiful smile, charming wit and warm robust laugh. She maintained her amazing strength and positive attitude to the end. Friends and Family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday, August 21st, 2014, 10:00 am, at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood's Wylie Chapel, 1760 N. Gower Street, Hollywood, CA 90028, with a reception to follow at her daughter, Jeanne Deranja's home. The family requests that all donations be sent to National Charity League, Foundation for Children, Tribute Fund, 5000 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90027.
