January 26, 1931 - July 29, 2014 On Tuesday, July 29th, 2014, Margaret (Maggie) McKnight Russell passed away surrounded by her family and friends, in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 83. A native Angelina, Maggie was born on January 26th, 1931 to Edgar and Margaret McKnight and was raised in Los Angeles. She was a graduate of Marlborough School for Girls and went on to graduate from UCLA, where she majored in music with an emphasis in opera. She went on to be a reporter for the Herald Examiner and a society reporter for The Los Angeles Times, and then was hired as the first Publicity Chairman for the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Later on she became a real estate manager and developer and was extensively involved in many philanthropic activities and organizations in the Los Angeles area, including: ARCS Los Angeles, Blue Ribbon, and many others. Her gentle guidance, diplomacy, eternal optimism and everlasting smile will be missed. Maggie was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Earl Russell, and is survived by her daughter, Keitha, her son, Kent and his wife Christine and grandson, Landis, and her nephew Jay and nieces Donna, Patti, Loretta, and Lynn, as well as her longtime companion, William McGagh. A memorial will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church on August 15th at 4 pm. In Maggie's memory, her family requests donations in her name be sent to ARCS Foundation, Inc. Los Angeles Chapter, 24520 Hawthorne Blvd., Suite #113, Torrance, CA 90505.
