Our most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away on June 25, 2014, with her family at her side. She was born to Philip and Helen Vishin, in Dearborn, Michigan, on March 5, 1932. The daughter of immigrants, she grew up in a culturally rich and vibrant Macedonian community. Her pride in that Macedonian heritage was evident throughout her life. A graduate of Fordson High School, she also became the first member of her family to graduate from college (Michigan Normal). She moved to Los Angeles in 1967, and quickly embraced the California lifestyle. Her first husband (Larry Sands) predeceased her in 1974, as did her firstborn son (Lester), in 1993. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 33 years, David Knutson. She is also survived and forever cherished by her children Lori (Zach) Wagner, Luke (Ginger) Sands, and Stephen (Lynn) Knutson, and her adored grandchildren: Justin, Jack, Amber, Jordan, Caroline, and Owen. Marian was our beautiful, spirited Macedonian Warrior. She never went to a party she didn't love, and she never threw a party that broke up before 3 am (the hills of Bel-Air will be quieter now). She never missed a sale at Neiman's, an antique show, or her grandchildren's ball games. She loved all things Detroit, Red Wings hockey, her eclectic mix of friends, gift giving, and Sun Valley, Idaho. Marian was a bon vivant who lived life on her own terms. We were all lucky to be able to participate in her exuberant, grand adventure. Services will be held at Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial Park on Saturday, June 28th, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Program. Please make checks payable to "The UCLA Foundation" and indicate that the gift is in memory of Marian Sands Knutson on the memo line, and send to UCLA Health Sciences Development, Attn: Katie Holland, 10945 Le Conte Avenue, Suite 3132, Los Angeles, CA 90095.
