July 11, 1941 - January 4, 2014 Mary Lou Crane, a 41 year resident of San Marino, passed away on January 4th, 2014. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Spencer Crane, their son Russell Crane and his wife Lourdes, their daughter Melissa Gabriel and her husband Neil, and her two grandchildren, Eliana and Ava. Mary Lou graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in English literature and Early Childhood Education, and she also earned a teaching credential. She worked as an elementary school teacher early in her career, and she also taught English as a second language to adult students. Later in life she earned a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and at the age of 58 she earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology. Mary Lou worked for The Wellness Community, a non-profit agency now called Cancer Support Community Pasadena, as well as other non-profit organizations. She also had an active private practice in Pasadena. Being a therapist strengthened her belief in the goodness of people. Music was a beloved part of Mary Lou's life, and she was always active in making music or supporting others in their pursuit of music. She sang with a number of choral groups, including The Arroyo Singers, Pasadena Pro Musica, and Wagner Ensemble. She also played the piano and guitar, she was an avid opera enthusiast, and she loved most of all to share music with her grandchildren. Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and friend. Her sense of humor and generous heart will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. At Mary Lou's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Lou's memory to Cancer Support Community Pasadena, at 200 E. Del Mar Blvd, Pasadena (www.cscpasadena.org).
