October 30, 1925 - November 16, 2013 Mary Kovacs passed away in the early hours of November 16 after several weeks of serious illness. Born and reared in Chicago, Mary Nemeth attended local schools. She was the daughter of William and Teresa Nemeth and sister of William. In October 1946 Mary and Frank S. Kovacs, a bronze star veteran, were married in Chicago. With her husband and daughter, Susan, Mary moved to Los Angeles in 1954. She enjoyed gardening, family vacations, and, was a 50+ year parishioner at Annunciation Catholic Church. Mary and Frank both spent their careers in the insurance business and she retired from Fireman's Fund Insurance Company after several decades of service. During her life Mary fulfilled long-held dreams of visiting places that had captured her imagination: Egypt, Russia, Israel, and most of the countries of the EU. She visited some of these places repeatedly, endlessly interested in their histories and artifacts. Of them all, Mary had an abiding love for the Bavarian Alps. Mary and her daughter grew especially close in recent years as Susan actively cared for her mother following numerous surgeries. Susan and her husband, Roger Chittum, known to Mary's friends as her "favorite son-in-law", survive her. Additionally Mary will be missed by her devoted caregivers, her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jean Nemeth of San Diego, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family hosted a local visitation at Rose Hills followed by a visitation and funeral mass at St. John Fisher Parish in Chicago and interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to D.E.L.T.A. Rescue, P O Box 9, Glendale, CA 91209.
