The only child of Louis and Virginia Ward, Mary was born on May 4, 1941 in Albuquerque, NM. Mary graduated from Georgetown University in 1962 as one of the first woman graduates of Georgetown's School of Foreign Service. There she met Arthur Kennedy and they were married in 1965. They lived in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, IL before settling in Los Angeles in 1971. Mary worked for the World Bank in Washington D.C. and, after receiving her Master in Social Work from the UCLA School of Social Welfare, worked as a social worker in Los Angeles. Mary was an avid reader and loved to draw and write. She loved baseball, spoke French, and played the piano.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur; her children, Morgan, Matthew, Emily, and Virginia; and her grandchildren, Megan, Travis, and Aiden.
A service will be held for family and close friends on September 28th at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Club 21 (clubtwentyone.org), which supports children with Down Syndrome.
