February 8, 1935 - September 13, 2011
Died in Kerala, southern India, where he had retired, of pneumonia after a short hospital stay. After receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemistry at the University of Kerala, he moved to New Jersey in 1963 for a teaching position at Seton Hall University. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Rutgers University in 1970. Dr. Abraham was a pioneer in the research of dietary copper deficiency, work which led him to UCLA where he also taught at the dental school. He studied elastin properties, particularly in the aortic cell, groundbreaking research at the time which led to advances in the management of Marfan syndrome. Afterward, he headed a business brokering the import and export of chemicals and bulk pharmaceuticals worldwide. He is survived by his loving family: wife Ammini; children Mary-Rose, Abu and Jimmy; son-in-law, Brad Geving; and a large, extended family in India.
