August 30, 1927 - October 14, 2013 Born in Los Angeles, Paul attended UCLA where he met his future wife, Sally, and earned an Engineering degree in only 3 years, then on to USC for graduate studies. Employed as a Chief Mechanical Engineer, in 1955 Paul borrowed $5,000 from his mother-in-law and opened his own practice as a Consulting Mechanical Engineer. As his business grew, he quickly paid back the loan, expanded his office and incorporated in 1969 as "Paul S. Bennett Inc." (PSBI). As a successful and highly respected Mechanical Engineering firm, during the 1950s and 1960s PSBI designed HVAC & Plumbing systems for many Southern California Supermarket chains, shopping centers, hotels and convention facilities, hospitals, schools and Las Vegas casino hotel towers. PSBI provided years of employment for more than 30 Engineers, Draftspersons and helpers. Paul and Sally married in 1947 and lived in Burbank, California for 11 years where they made many lifelong friendships before moving to Sherman Oaks. There they lived out their lives raising their family. Their home became a favorite gathering place for all their children's friends. Their daughter, Beth Ellen, and son, Paul Randall (Randy) followed their parents in attending UCLA. When in 1995 Paul stepped away from active design work, his engineering firm continued on as "Paul Bennett Partnership". Guiding PSBI in a new direction, Paul developed a successful practice providing forensic analysis and critical review for clients involved in legal and financial construction defects litigation. Known for technical competence and personal integrity, Paul continued to provide expert opinion and testimony for various clients around the United States for the rest of his life. Paul enjoyed being with his large family at home and on vacation, and his family and friends loved being with him. He and Sally traveled extensively around the world by themselves as well as with family and friends. In 2006 Paul and Sally gifted the family with a wonderful vacation, taking more than 35 family adults and children to Cabo San Lucas for a week of sun, fun, family and amazing memories. Sally, the love of his life and partner of over 63 years, passed in 2007. Paul continued to spend time with his children and friends. On an airplane traveling to the 2008 Final Four tournament in San Antonio, Texas, Paul met Virginia Ettinger. He and Virginia (Ginny) were together for 5 years, traveling to see friends, caring for each other and enjoying each other's company. Paul passed Monday evening at home surrounded by people who loved him. He is survived by his daughter Beth Ellen Bennett, son Dr. Paul Randall Bennett, grandson Gregory Hanson Bennett and lots of family. We all miss him.
