Peggy Burbank Wise Obituary
May 7, 1930 - July 11, 2013
Our beautiful and gracious Peggy passed away at home on July 11, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She courageously overcame many health challenges throughout her life and we are grateful for every day spent with her. She was without a doubt, the "Heart" of our family.
Peggy was born on May 7, 1930 in Ely, Nevada to Margaret Grant of Ogden, Utah and William Biggane of Cork, Ireland. William died in 1933 and Margaret moved her two daughters, Peggy and Patty, to Los Angeles where she remarried. The girls were given the last name Burbank after being adopted. Peggy attended Beverly Hills High School and UCLA where she served as President of Pi Beta Phi sorority and Associate Editor of the campus yearbook. She met her true love and soul mate, Lloyd Wise at a Pi Phi - Sigma Nu exchange. Married in August 1952, they were cherished best friends throughout their 60+ years together.
Their charmed life began in San Diego where Peggy taught first grade. After returning to Los Angeles, daughters Robin and Ellen were born and then raised for 16 memorable years in Woodland Hills. During this time, Peggy joined the Volunteer League of the San Fernando Valley, served on the Pi Phi Corporation and Advisory Boards at UCLA and later she became a docent at the L.A. Natural History Museum. A favorite activity was her role as Girl Scout leader. She filled our home to the brim with love and laughter and was always a tremendously supportive mother.
In 1976, life was further enhanced by a move to Newport Beach and then to Emerald Bay. There her considerable energy and wonderful taste were divided between playing tennis and helping organize the Beautify the Bay committee, serving ten years as chairman. She also continued her 40 year profession of planning itineraries for friends and family as a travel consultant. Peggy and Lloyd enjoyed a lifetime of travel, visiting most of the world. Family vacations were favorite memories especially to the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, Alisal Ranch and the Mauna Kea. In her later years, she became "Mimi" to her adored and adoring grandchildren, Preston, Mindy and Allison. Always thinking of others, Peggy's very special gift was finding ways to brighten someone's day.
So many lessons can be learned from our Mimi who lived life to the fullest offering comfort, wisdom, and love to her family and her large circle of friends. Peggy's elegant, charming style and thoughtfulness endeared her to all she met. We will hold onto her in our hearts forever! Peggy is survived by her devoted husband Lloyd, dear sister Patty Bordner of Irvine, loving daughters Robin Taylor (Philip) of Atherton, Ellen Wheeler (Nelson) of Newport Beach, and three grandchildren Preston and Mindy Wheeler, and Allison Taylor.
Memorial service and reception celebrating Peggy will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Big Canyon County Club, 1 Big Canyon Drive, Newport Beach. To honor Peggy's life donations may be made in her name to the .
