Raymond Ray Preston Obituary
January 18, 1953 - October 9, 2013 Born in Santa Monica to Billy Ray and Mary Joe (Gillem) Preston of Venice CA, formerly of Childress TX. Named after his grandfather and father, Ray was the 5TH of 6 children, had one sister, one half sister and three half brothers. In April 1972 he joined the U.S. Army and served 1 tour as a tank operator stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. While in service completing his GED. Awarded the National Defense Service Medal, he was expert 45 Cal and marksman M16. Honorably discharged he found work as an x-ray tech at several L.A. area hospitals. He loved this work and soon became known for his great skill. Twenty-some years later he discover a knack for computers and thus was born "The Computer Wizard". From designing, building, repairs and systems set-up to teaching the "how to's", this was his calling and he followed it with a passion. He was quite a gamer too! Ray enjoyed crossbow target shooting and recently discovered fishing. For the last 10 years he was his mother's companion, protector, driver and errand runner. His generosity of spirit never failed as he helped her keep appointments, monitor medications and set-up her own computer. His devotion was immeasurable. Ray was preceded in death by his father, 1976; brothers, Ronald "Ronnie" Dick Brown, 1972 and Joe Don Brown, 2008. He is survived by his mother; brother, Roy Glen Brown; sister, Nancy Jean (Brown) Crutchfield and husband Samuel Bernard; sister, Mary Junea (Preston) Reposa; sister-in-law, Sandra Lee Smith; nephew, Jeffrey Lee Brown; niece, Veronica Mae Lynch, all of the L.A. & Venice areas; Uncle Jay & Aunt Ellen Gillem of Childress TX; and by many great nephews, nieces and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 in Sunrise Chapel at Gates Kingsley & Gates 4220 S. Sepulveda Bl Culver City CA 90230. Pastor Kenneth D. Wallace officiating. There will be an Army honor guard present and at a later date a service to scatter his ashes at sea with full military honors. The reception will follow at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2397, 13018 W. Washington Bl Los Angeles CA 90066.
