October 5, 1940 - March 30, 2014 SE, Principal, Project Director Husband, father and "papa". He will forever be missed. Richard joined AC Martin in 1963, serving as a structural engineer on such key projects as ARCO headquarters in Los Angeles, Hydril Corporate Headquarters in Houston, and Mount Sutro tower in San Francisco. When AC Martin moved from a partnership to a corporate structure in 2000, Richard was elected to the board of directors and served as the Corporation's Chief Structural Engineer. His over 45 years of experience in project management, structural engineering and supervision of structural design included a broad array of institutional and industrial facilities, governmental complexes, office and manufacturing facilities, research facilities, educational facilities and commercial developments. As a Project Director with a strong background in engineering, Richard was involved in many of the firm's highly complex science and technology projects, providing leadership from inception through completion including: project management, code research, design, construction documentation, and construction administration. A few of his significant works as "Principal-in-Charge" included the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the TRW Research, Development and Manufacturing Complex in Redondo Beach, Tutor Hall at the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC, and most recently, the Engineering Building IV at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from UCLA, where he also completed Graduate Extension Work. Richard was a licensed Civil and Structural Engineer in the State of California, and a member of Tau Beta Pi, an Honorary Professional Fraternity. "Dick was a 50 year member of the AC Martin family firm, a true leader and a most valuable confidant. He will be deeply missed", Christopher C. Martin, FAIA, Chairman & CEO, AC Martin Partners, Inc. Richard is survived by his wife, Eva, his sons, Edward (Idalisse) and Robert. Grandchildren, Gabriel and Daniela and his brother, Ben. Memorial Service was held on 4/13/14. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
