Miller, Richard Clarke
October 22, 1918 - October 23, 2012
Born in 1918, Richard Clarke Miller was a second generation Californian, the second son of Robert P and Helen C Miller. Raised in California, he attended schools in the San Marino-Pasadena area, followed by UC Berkeley and graduation from University of New Mexico with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He served in the US Army 1943-46. Richard passed away on October 23, 2012, with his children and his wife Joan by his side. He was 94 years and 1 day. Richard worked for SWECO for 33 years. SWECO, a manufacturer of vibratory process equipment, was bought out by Emerson Electric Company. Richard was a member of the California Club, Los Angeles Yacht Club, and Pi Tau Sigma, the mechanical engineering honorary society. He helped raise funds for a variety of causes, including Muscular Dystrophy, SmileTrain and Rio Hondo Boys Club. He was active in the Vernon Rotary Club, participating in activities to aid families with children with special needs. He served as President in 1966-67. Richard's hobbies included boating, motor homing and photography. Richard will be remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He was happiest enjoying his retirement traveling by boat or motorhome with Joan to rendezvous with their many friends. His passion for photography might be remembered by some as an exercise of his dogged stubbornness and determination, but his vivid documentation of the family will be cherished. He was a caring, supportive and generous friend and family man who will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Joan, and his 4 children Cass Adelsbach, Margaret Nardizzi, Caroline Lieber and Richard C Miller, Jr; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his sons- and daughter-in-law. A celebration of life will be held on December 1, 2012, 1-4 PM at the Pavilions room, Pierpont Inn, Ventura, California. Don't go away mad, Richard!
