After all these years have passed since I was hired at Continental in 1965, now at 83 I still often think and speak of Dick. I was so fortunate to have flown as a co-Pilot for him on the B747. I have always respected Dick as not only a pilot legend at Continental Airlines, but as one on the truly nice men I have ever known.

Thank you for reminding me on this anniversary. Thanks to Dick's generosity and trust in me out of high school, I now enjoy flying my own corporate jet and still recall fond memories of his warmth and generosity. See you some day soon again Sir.

Dick was so kind to everyone who shared his love. My only ride in a Waco is courtesy of Dick. I kept his interest up flying our WestWind to Maui from SBA with Gene Nueman. God bless to Dick and family. He will never be forgotten.

He wrote a lovely poem about Captain Fred Gray after that pilot perished in the bombing of Continental Airlines Flight 11 on May 22 1962. The poem, "top-o-climb" was published in the Denver Post.

He was my ever-present, always loving and delightful Grandpa who I know loved me to the moon and back. I can't tell you how much it has meant to have him in my life for 41 years. I am very blessed.

Dick was a friend of my wife Valerie and me for more than 30 years. He and I shared a love of flying and fishing. This led to many pleasant days fishing and "hangar flying". Dick's encyclopedic knowledge of aviation and ability to recall people and events reaching back more than 70 years, was extraordinary. He was a great story teller, poet and loved to sing. Dick loved his family and had a great many good life long friends. He was a classy gentleman and will not be forgotten. RIP good friend.

I was happy to have worked in the back, as a Flight Attendant on many of his flights. I was present with my husband Fred, when Dick was honored for his 50 years as a Shriner. He was a nice man.

while in Dallas, he hired the first black captain for CAL - against some major furor if I remember- but was ultimately proud of this person (sorry, I don;t remember the name)and himself for having the courage to do this.

Only time I was on an airplane with Capt. Grigsby was as a new copilot out of the El Paso crew base. He was riding jump seat evaluating procedures and standardization for the Company. He made me feel very comfortable and was extremely cordial. I always have admired and respected him. He kept the Golden Eagles together during the hard years. He will be well received at the pilots lounge in the sky.

Birdie Bertrand. Dick was just one of the best. His trip West will be at FL 370 and smooth. No Doppler, INS or GPS will be necessary.
