Robert Henigson

December 27, 1925 - January 28, 2014 Los Angeles native Robert Henigson passed away from injuries sustained in a serious fall at his residence a few days prior. He was surrounded by his wife Phyllis, and sons Ted and Jeff. Robert and his sister Beverly were raised in Hollywood by their mother Ethel and father Henry, a filmmaker. After graduating from Black-Foxe Military Institute, Robert served on a mine sweeper in WW2. He came home to earn two degrees from Caltech and a third from Harvard Law which he applied to the major work of his professional career at Lawler, Felix & Hall. He retired to the San Juan Islands in 1995. Robert's lifelong passion for the outdoors found its expression in backpacking, climbing, surfing, skiing, and running. His athletic appetites held no rival except perhaps for his reading of books, which continued unabated into his later years through audio books from the National Library Service for the Blind. Robert's philanthropic endeavors were the major focus of his life after retirement and included affordable housing, the performing arts, the protection of undeveloped land for public access, and everything from childhood education to college scholarships to endowed professorships. He was deeply inspired by Abraham Lincoln, most particularly by his humility, integrity, and lifelong commitment to learning. Letters of condolence may be sent to RH1925-2014@henigson.com
