November 12, 1954 - August 16, 2014 Sherry Netherland, 59, died peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA with her close friends by her side. Sherry was born on November 12, 1954 to Mel and May Gottlieb in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from State University of New York at Albany with a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She went on to receive her Masters and taught at U.C. Santa Barbara. Sherry was a stand up comic, improv artist, actress, photographer, writer, songwriter, storyteller and director. Many of these talents were performed as a member of the Group Repertory Theatre where she worked from 2007 to the present. In 2008, she was awarded Best Director for her direction of Terrence McNally's "Prelude and Liebestod" by the Valley Theatre League. Most recently, Sherry directed the critically acclaimed world premier of GRT's production of "Mom's Gift" by Phil Olson. Sherry was also a health care professional having worked as the Director of Special Projects at Assisted Healthcare Services for the past 23 years. She was also a certified fitness trainer who motivated individuals to become physically active and inspired to make lifestyle changes. But Sherry was most proud of her work as Shot Put Coach for the Westside Special Olympics where she volunteered for many years.
