April 25, 1913 - December 24, 2013 Sidney Fowler Shankland died peacefully in his home on December 24, 3 weeks after the death of his much-loved wife, Marita. He was 100 years old. Sidney was born in Los Angeles to Fowler and Isabel Shankland, grew up in Los Angeles and spent many happy days during his early years at Hermosa Beach. He attended Los Angeles High School, graduated from UCLA, and received his Masters in Business Administration from Stanford University. Sidney was a third generation Californian who always loved the beach and was an avid surf fisherman, volleyball player, and body surfer. Sid and Marita retired to Fairbanks Ranch in San Diego County in 1981. They took up competitive croquet, an activity that he enjoyed both for the sport and for the many friends that they made. Spending time with his family and friends was what he loved best. He is predeceased by his wife, Marita, and survived by his son, Sidney Fowler Jr. (Patricia), his daughters Barbara Smith (James), Missy Arington (Richard), and Susan Lee (Alec), 9 grandchildren, 10 great grand children, and his devoted amiga, Teresa Espinosa.
