icon April 6, 1923 - December 16, 2013 Thelma Jane Jackson entered heavenly gates on December 16, 2013. A 50 year resident of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Jackson celebrated thirty years of success as a psychiatric social worker for Los Angeles County in Community Health Clinics located in Compton and Norwalk. From humble beginnings, born in Madison, Tennessee, just outside Memphis, she and her twin sister, Velma, and elder brother Eddie achieved unexpected professional success where their father, Jodie Owens, had been a dedicated career brakeman for the Michigan New York Central Railroad Company and their mother, Dixie Stevens, died young at the age of 23. Reared primarily in Jackson, Michigan, Thelma and Velma ventured into adulthood at age of fifteen, moving to Ann Arbor where her brother and sister, Lotsy Graham, resided. By the mid-1940's, Thelma married Clinton Jackson, Michigan native, but later was widowed when he died in a prison war camp in the Korean Conflict in 1952. She remained widowed for the remainder of her life. Thelma achieved a Master's degree in social work at the University of Washington, in the mid 1960's, then joined her sister who had settled in View Park, Los Angeles, Over the years, Thelma kept a lovely home in Leimert Park, Manhattan Beach, Hollywood Hills and Playa del Rey. For the past three decades, by travelling internationally to all the continents, save Antarctica, Thelma's intellect and curiosity never waned. Her surviving family includes, grandsons Jeffrey and Lloyd Jones of Tacoma, Washington, nieces Monica Benton of Seattle, Washington, Kimberly Williams of Lorton, Virginia, and Jacquelyn Briggs of Tuscon, Arizona. Her only daughter, Christina Jones of Oakland, California predeceased her.
