August 28, 1929 - November 21, 2013 Una A. (Ann) Payne loyal friend, loving Aunt and passionate Bruin joined her husband Bill and brother Jack on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Ann was able to spend her final days at home under the compassionate care of Hospice. Born August 28, 1929 in Los Angeles, CA, Ann grew up in Compton with her brother Jack and parents Una and John Dowlin. A graduate of UCLA in 1952, Ann was a prolific writer and was a reporter for the Daily Bruin. As an alumna, Ann created, edited and distributed newsletters for two UCLA Alumnae groups - Gold Shield and Las Donas for 12 years. Ann was married to the love of her life William (Bill) Payne for 40 years and was a dedicated teacher in the Long Beach Unified School District for 38 years. A loyal Bruin to the end, Ann volunteered for many years at the Alumni Center on the campus of UCLA, was a member of Gold Shield and Las Donas, a fervent supporter of all UCLA athletics and the benefactor of an annual UCLA scholarship. Ann will be remembered for her wit, compassion, patience and unconditional love. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ann is survived by her niece Jonel Elias and grand nephew Kaikea.
