Wallace "Wally" Friedman Obituary
June 16, 1931 - January 25, 2014 Wallace "Wally" Friedman aka Wally Fayne passed away peacefully at his home in Westlake Village on January 25th after a long battle with Crohn's Disease. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 16, 1931, graduated from Boys High School. He moved to California with his parents and attended Los Angeles City College where he earned the degree of Associate in Arts in 1951. Wally served his country as a Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War with duties as a pilot and radar observer. He married Beverly N. Fineman in 1952, and two sons were born to them; Richard Bruce and Stephen Jay. The couple enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Beverly's death in 2007. Wally earned a BA in journalism from Cal State at Los Angeles in 1957. In 1959, two songs that he wrote and recorded under the name of Wally Fayne on HiFire records made the hit charts and he appeared on American Bandstand. After working in the aerospace industry for a few years Wally worked to become a lawyer, graduating from the University of San Fernando Valley College of Law in 1966. He was admitted to the California Bar, practicing as a trial lawyer and was a member of the bar for 45 years. In 1998 the Bar presented him with the Southern California Retired Attorney President's Pro Bono Service Award. Wally was predeceased by his parents Max and Belle Friedman and his beloved wife Beverly. He is survived by his two sons, Richard B. Friedman of Pflugerville, Texas and Dr. Stephen Friedman, M.D. of Belle Air; his brother Joel Friedman of Woodland Hills, his loyal poodle Pierre; and many other family and friends who will miss him. Services will be held at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forrest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 29, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
