George Pabst Obituary
George Henry Pabst Jr.
August 2, 1945 - August 26, 2014

Prominent Long Beach Broker George Pabst died at 10:56 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center of complications following bone marrow transplantation to treat the leukemia that had been discovered during a routine physical examination in January.

The only child of George Henry Pabst and Geneva Richardson Pabst, George was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Both of his parents were veterans of World War II, his mother a nurse and his father a captain in the U.S. Army. Not long after the war ended, the family moved to Sherman Oaks, California, where George graduated from Notre Dame High School.

George earned a bachelor's degree in business from USC in 1968 and soon began working in the university's development department as liaison to USC's many support groups. While working full-time he completed a master's degree in education.

It was during his twelve years at USC that George began buying small houses in Long Beach, San Pedro, and Downey, fixing them up on his own during evening and weekend hours, and selling them.

In 1979 George began working in real estate sales for a Long Beach broker. He met fellow sales agent Kristie Kinney in the same company. The couple began dating in 1980 and, while still single, they opened their own company, Pabst, Kinney & Associates, in December 1981.

The couple married on March 26, 1983. Their real estate brokerage and property management firm thrived from the beginning and has grown every year for thirty-three years under the joint direction of George and Kristie. Pabst-Kinney manages more than 3,000 units for more than 350 owner investors in individual homes, condominiums, and multiple-unit dwellings in the greater Long Beach area and operates ProMaintenance, a large company that serves the ongoing needs of all Pabst-Kinney clients.

George and Kristie are parents to sons, Kolby, 29; Spencer, 28; and Keegan, 27; and daughter Krosby, 22. The sons are all actively engaged in the family business and Krosby is a recent telecommunications and social media graduate of Penn State University.

Modest and easygoing, George lived a full and vigorous life. His greatest pleasures were, in order, his family, golf, racquetball, USC Trojan football and swimming in Los Alamitos bay, often with his best friend and former USC classmate, John Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Cornerstone Church, 1000 N. Studebaker Road, in Long Beach. A reception for family and friends will follow at Old Ranch Country Club, 3901 Lampson Avenue, Seal Beach.
