Janet Bryson Beymer Obituary
Janet Bryson Beymer

May 20, 1915 -
July 19, 2014

Janet Bryson Beymer passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2014 with the same grace that she had lived her 99 years. She was born on May 20, 1915 in Nodaway, Iowa, the youngest of three children of Lillian and Andrew Bryson. Her family eventually settled in Riverside, CA where she graduated from high school and met the love of her life, Neil. She went on to graduate from UCLA in 1936 with her teaching credential in hand.

Janet and Neil were married in 1940 and settled in Long Beach in 1947. Teaching was her passion - watching kids reach their full potential was her joy. She taught second grade and was a junior high school counselor in the Long Beach School District. She then went on to work for the District office hiring new teachers.

Janet and Neil had many lifelong friends in Long Beach and enjoyed playing golf and traveling with them. A small group of church friends met for monthly potluck dinners for 50+ years - a true legacy to enduring friendships.

Janet loved life and had a great sense of humor. She loved working with her hands and leaves her family with many crocheted afghans to remember her by and kept warm by her love. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Neil; her two brothers, Chet Bryson and Newell Bryson; and her granddaughter, Sharon Brooks.

Janet will be sorely missed by her surviving family members, daughters, Jane (Gary) Brooks and Barbara (Harry) Hauge; three grandchildren, Mike Brooks, Heather (Christopher) Shea and Robyn (Travis) Bergmans; and four adorable great-grandchildren, Bryson, Liam, Owen and Poppy.

At Janet's request, there will be no memorial service. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to California Heights Methodist Church, 3759 Orange Ave., Long Beach, CA 90807. Please sign the guestbook at www.press telegram.com/obits.
