Gene A. Hitz LEBANON Gene A. Hitz, 74, passed away on March 12, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lebanon County on August 23, 1938, he was the son of the late Walter and Hilda Ebling Hitz. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority retiring in 2003 after 19 years of service. Gene is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Schmick Hitz; a son Jeffrey, a son Gregory (husband of Lorrie), son Brian, and daughter Valerie, six grandchildren, Sasha (wife of Jeremy Stone), Zachary, Ryan, Eric, Sierra, and Sabrina Spitler and one great grandson Hunter Stone. He is also survived by three brothers, Russell Krall, George Hitz, and James Hitz, and many nieces and nephews. He was a member and firefighter with the Ebenezer Fire Company for 55 years. He was also a member and helped organize the Lebanon County Police Combat Pistol Club. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and a NASCAR fan. He helped maintain and grade the Penn National dirt car track, and enjoyed putting puzzles together and putting them in frames. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. from the Kreamer and Lum Funeral Home and Crematory, Rt. 72 And Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Viewing will be held on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
