John E. Wengert LEBANON John E. Wengert, 79, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of Marie Bowman Wengert to whom he was married 48 years. Born in Lebanon on March 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Samuel K. and Ada R. Wengert. His father founded Wengert's Dairy where John was employed from 1961-1999 serving as Plant Manager and President. John was a 1951 graduate of Lebanon High School where he played varsity football, trombone in the band, was President of Student Council, Hi-Y, and Kiwanis Key Club, and served as President of his class. He was also a 1955 graduate of Yale University, and was then commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy serving from 1955 to 1958. He then attended Penn State University from 1958-1959 studying Dairy Science. He served as treasurer and acting President of the Lebanon YMCA Board, President and campaign chairman of the United Way of Lebanon County, Board member of Lebanon Valley Farmers Bank, President of Lebanon Rotary Club, President of the Pennsylvania Association of Milk Dealers, President of the Lebanon Valley Conservancy, and a Lebanon Valley Rails to Trails Advisor. He was also active in fund raising campaigns for many local organizations. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling and antiquing. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, John Bowman Wengert of Lebanon; a grandson, Henry Bowman Wengert; three brothers, Harlan husband of Nancy Wengert of Lebanon, S. Kenneth husband of Charlotte Wengert of Cleona, Clifford husband of Joan Wengert of Lititz; and three sisters, Louise wife of Louis White of Maryland; and twin sisters, Joan Hettinger and Jane Sprecher both of Florida, and 18 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon from the Cornwall United Methodist Church, Rt. 419 and Alden Streets, Cornwall. Interment will be held in Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cleona. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church.
