Noel K. Hertzog NEWMANSTOWN Noel K. Hertzog, 68, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 8, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Wendy D. (Wenrich) Hertzog, to whom he would have been married 39 years on June 29, 2013. Born in Reading on August 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Norman and Mae (Snyder) Hertzog. A 1962 graduate of ELCO High School, he graduated from the Harrisburg Barber School and went on to graduate with a degree in education from Penn State University in 1970. He later completed graduate work at Penn State and Marywood Universities. He taught in the ELCO School District for 35 years at the Fort Zeller and Schaefferstown Elementary Schools, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Church of Christian Outreach, Newmanstown, where he served as an adult Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Eastern Lebanon Co. Education Assn., Masonic Lodge No. 62 F & AM in West Reading, a lifetime member since graduation of the Penn State Alumni Assn., a social member of the Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Co., a life member of the Newmanstown Athletic Assn., a member and past president of the Millcreek Township Alumni Assn., an inductee into the ELCO High School Hall of Fame, and a member of the Millcreek Twp. Recreation League "Wreck Team". He served as a Millcreek Township Supervisor for 12 years, founded and managed the Newmanstown Playground for over 25 years, was instrumental in starting the Music in the Park program, and received numerous teaching awards. He loved baseball, which he played from age 8 to 62, and managed the Newmanstown Maroons of the Lebanon Valley League and the Newmanstown Junior Legion team. He enjoyed deer and small game hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kent, husband of Natalia Hertzog of Spring Twp.; a daughter, Ashley Hertzog of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Rebecca, wife of James Hoffman of Myerstown; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite bulldog, Sherman. Funeral services will begin promptly at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013, from the ELCO High School Auditorium, 180 ELCO Drive, Myerstown, preceded by a viewing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
