Ada K. Schafer Lansing Born June 6, 1925; died peacefully January 29, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Ada was the daughter of Albert and Viola Durant. She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola; husband, Richard and brother, George Durant. Ada is survived by her son, Jack Schafer; daughters, Linda Schafer and JoAnn Root, all of Lansing; three grandchildren, Darcy (Dario) Ianni of Ypsilanti, Dan (Erin) Root of Holt and Ryan Schafer of Holt; two great-grandchildren, Renato and River Ianni; two special sisters-in-law, Betty J. Speaks and Geraldine Powell; and special friends, Nancy Isham, Joy Schafer and Debra Hill. Ada graduated from Eastern High School with the class of 1943. She was the Vice President of Farmington Auto Wash and South Cedar Distributors (Retired). Ada was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and she belonged to the Holt/Mason Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Vivian Society of the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Holt. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Ada Schafer.
