Carmine O. Henderson Age 61, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at McLaren Greater Lansing. Family and friends will gather in the sanctuary of Mask Memorial CME Church 5601 S. Waverly Rd. Lansing, MI 48911 on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 10a.m., with service commencing promptly at 11a.m. Mr. Henderson will lie in state at the church Wednesday, June 19, 2013 and may be viewed 10a.m-11a.m Mr. Carmine Omega Henderson, Sr. was born July 9, 1951 in Kiblah, Arkansas, Miller County, the son of C.J. and Rebecca Henderson. Carmine united with Unionville C.M.E. Church in Arkansas at an early age. He graduated from Kiblah High School, "Class of 1969." He obtained his barber license from Hurd Barber College in Marshall, Texas. He moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1970, and attended Lansing Community College where he received his Associate Degree in Sociology. He later attended Michigan State University studying geography. He was a veteran of the United States Army proudly serving his country for two years, and was stationed in Hanau, Germany where he met the love of his life, Susan. They were later united in marriage and had two sons. Carmine loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Mask Memorial C.M.E. Church where he served as Chairman of Board of Trustees. He also served on the Lansing area Juneteenth Committee, and was a member of the NAACP. Carmine retired in 2008, from Lansing Metal Fabricating Center, a division of General Motors after 31 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 652. Carmine was reliable, trustworthy, kind, sensible, a best friend, and confidant. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting; a lover of athletic competition and a Spartan sports enthusiast. He was also a cook, gardener, carpenter, repair man, mechanic and the families "go to man." Carmine leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 34 years, Susan Henderson; 2 sons, Carmine Henderson, Jr. (Lakesha) and Brandon Henderson, both of Lansing, MI; 5 grandchildren, Jayson Andrews of New York, Carmine O. Henderson, III, Kiara, Glenn Jr., and Lichelle Tyler of Lansing, MI; 3 sisters, Mildred E. Richardson, Alda L. Henderson, both of Lansing, MI, and Zolar Ree Strickland of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Marlon (Ruby) Henderson of Jonesboro, AR. Carmine was preceded in death by: parents, C.J. and Rebecca Henderson; siblings, W.D. Henderson, C.J. Henderson and Wyretha Warner; son, Jason Andrews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mass Memorial C.M.E. Church or the Lansing, Chapter.
