David Alan Nichols Charlotte David Alan Nichols, 64, of Charlotte, passed away November 30, 2012 at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born December 29, 1947 to William and Elizabeth (Hoeflinger) Nichols in Lansing, MI. He graduated from Charlotte High School and in May 1967, joined the United States Coast Guard and served his country during the Vietnam conflict. He transferred to the Coast Guard Reserves and received an honorable discharge in May 1974. On July 23, 1971 he married Margaret "Peggy" Zimmer and together they raised 1 son and 1 daughter in Charlotte, Michigan. David worked as a Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter for Local 669 Sprinkler Fitters for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of American Legion and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play golf and brag about his hole-in-one on the 17th green at Mulberry Fore playing with his dad on his dad's birthday, October 17, 2003. He called Bingo at the St. Mary Catholic Church. Many of the church children will remember David as the fella who always made sure they got their favorite donut after church on Sunday. David was also a member of the American Legion Post 42. Above all, David loved his family. David is survived by his loving spouse of 41 years, Margaret "Peggy"; son Wade (Suzie) Nichols of Charlotte, MI; daughter Kelly Franz (Brock Vermillion) of Charlotte, MI; 2 sisters, Yvonne Wright of Jamestown, TN and Sheila Braden (Russie Gilley) of Headland, AL; 2 brothers, William (Cathy) Nichols of Portland, MI and Ross (Penny) Nichols of Nashville, MI; his mother, Elizabeth Nichols; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey, Trevor, Kirsten and Isaiah; and 3 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, William Nichols, in 2011. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan. A rosary service will be held at 7pm followed by an Affirmation Service. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte with Rev. Fr. Francis Mossholder officiating. Interment will take place in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Eaton Community Palliative Care, or St. Mary Catholic Church.
