George Thomas "Tom" Young

Lansing

Age 93, died on July 13, 2014 at his home. He was born November 25, 1920 in Los Angeles California the son of George Thornton Young and Gaza P. (Bach) Young, Cannon.  He served in the 20th Air Force on Tinian Island during WWII as a bombsight and electronic repairman. He attended gun school at Oldsmobile in 1943. George married Charleen M. Grohman of Lansing Michigan on January 18, 1946. They had one daughter Helen E. (Young) Seibert. Charleen died in 1985.

George married Mary Lou Wyeth Champagne in 1986. He retired from Oldsmobile Display department after 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, photography, and MSU football games. He held a private pilot's license.  He played trumpet in high school bands and made three trips to band competitions at Rose Bowl.

Preceded in death by half-brother Gordon Bach.

Survived by Helen Seibert, two step daughters Ann McDaniel of Missouri, Dawn Jones of Tennessee, step son Al Champagne of East Lansing. He had a special friend and neighbor Bob Wyman that he considered as a son.

Services will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Tiffany Funeral Home 3232 West Saginaw Lansing, Michigan 48917. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
