James "Jim" Arthur Gallagher Born May 30, 1926, died January 20, 2013. Raised on a farm near Callaway, Minnesota. Drafted into the U.S. Navy in December 1944, and served aboard the USS Yellowstone, a destroyer tender, from January 1946 - November 1947. In June 1948, he married Charlotte Mickelson (nee Kohler); she predeceased him in 1983. Jim graduated from the Gale Institute of Railroad Technology, followed by a nine-year career on the Soo Line Railroad as a telegrapher, station agent and train dispatcher. In 1956, he began a 40-year career in the insurance business, the final 29 years with Michigan Farm Bureau, wherein he founded and managed their internal brokerage firm. In 1984, Jim married Lana Williams and became Dad to her two children. He is survived by his wife Lana; daughters Cheryl Dilbone and Ramona Dolbee; son Tim; stepson Adam Williams; stepdaughter Eve Jerzak; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; siblings Jack, Dick and Shirley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim will be sadly missed by the McWatty Knoll Hunt Club, of which he was a proud founding member, the Thursday ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out), his 3-13 card-playing pals, and countless friends. A celebration service for Jim's life will be Thursday, January 24 at 11 am at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing, with Rev. Bill Beachy and Fr. John Klein officiating. Visitation precedes the service from 9:30 - 11. Inurnment to follow at The Delta Center Cemetery in Lansing.
