James Benjamin Brunk, Sr. Lansing Born September 11, 1929 in Lac Vieux Desert, MI, the son of the late Frank and Martha (Poler) Brunk, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at age 83. James retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years, serving during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Wars. He then worked for the State of Michigan in the Department of Social Services, Civil Service and finally retiring from the DNR as a Systems Analyst. James remained active in Softball and Bowling into his eighties. He was proud of his 300 bowling game and having participated in the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, UT, where his softball team took 3rd place. After retiring though, he was very happy taking care of his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Bailey) Brunk in 1995, a grandson, Samuel York, and 7 siblings: George, Celia, Margaret, Elizabeth, Frank, Albert and Patrick. Surviving are his 6 children: Anna Brunk, James Jr. (Kari) Brunk, Barbara York, Shirley Brunk, David (Donna) Brunk and Roger Brunk; grandchildren: James and Alexander Brunk, Jacqueline and Ashley York, Sylvia Brunk, Ariella, Kara and Hayden Brunk; a great granddaughter, Lilyanna Walling; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Native American Services will be held Saturday at 3:00PM in the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 520 E. Mt. Hope Ave. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM.
