Obituary Condolences

Jean Ann (Granville) Kennedy Born October 14, 1923, Saginaw, Michigan, died November 17, 2012. Jean Kennedy, the eldest daughter of Earl and Isabella Granville, was the first female in her family to attend college, taking her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1945 from (now) Michigan State University. She married Theodore Robert Kennedy, who became a professor in the M.S.U. department then known as American Thought and Language, in 1946. Jean became the mother of three daughters after teaching secondary school for a time in Lansing, Michigan. Jean later became a part-time academic advisor for freshman residents of M.S.U.'s Brody Hall, retiring from that post in the 1980s. For many years Jean was an officer and active member of the Beta Pi Boosters, the alumni organization for M.S.U.'s chapter of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and for several years she was also past-president and board member of the Friends of the East Lansing Public Library. Jean was pre-deceased by her husband and daughter, Kathleen D. Kennedy. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Marilyn Huckle of Boynton Beach, FL, two daughters, Gail K. (Frankie) Iverstine, of Niceville, FL, Ann I. Kennedy of Oxford, MI, by two grandchildren and a great-grandson. The family has chosen to hold no services. The family requests that any remembrances be made in the form of donations to the Kathleen D. Kennedy Memorial Library Endowment. Gifts to the endowment may be arranged by contacting Ms. Agnes Widder, of Michigan State University, at (517) 884-6394 or by e-mail at widder@msu.edu.
