John Leslie Silvernale Olympia, WA In Loving Memory Of John Leslie Silvernale May 28, 1927 - September 3, 2013 John Leslie Silvernale, 86, formerly of East Lansing, passed peacefully with his family by his side on September 3, 2013 in Olympia, Washington. Born May 28, 1927 in Eaton Rapids, MI, John was preceded in death by his wife Ruthann, his parents Leslie and Reland (Hansen) Silvernale, and one sister Ann Bowden of Seattle. Following graduation from high school in Red Wing, MN in 1945, John served in Austria with the 28th Division of the United States Army. While overseas, John married Ruth in 1952. He earned a BA from the University of Minnesota and an MA from the University of Wisconsin. John was a long-time teacher and counselor at Eastern High and Pattengill Junior High schools in Lansing, MI. He was active with the Boy Scouts and the Boys Club in the Lansing, MI area for many years. In 1986, John and Ruth retired and moved to Olympia, WA, where he was a member of the United Churches of Olympia and active in organizations helping youth. John will be missed by his four children, Margaret Casey (Dan) of Haslett, Michigan, Leslie Loew-Blosser (Will) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jenifer Silvernale (Mark Rensel) of Olympia, Washington, and John W. Silvernale (Kate) of Snohomish, Washington. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Branum, Jack, Rosie, Christopher and Jeanette, and great-grandchildren Benny and Isla. The family is being served by Funeral Alternatives, Olympia Washington, www.funeralalternatives.org. A memorial service will be held at The United Churches of Olympia on October 26th at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Thurston County Food Bank, 220 Thurston Ave. NE, Olympia, WA 98501.
