Joseph Gordon Defrates Lansing Joseph Gordon Defrates, 71, died November 13, 2013. Joe was born February 20, 1942 in Charlotte, the son of Samuel Gordon and Margaret Jean (See) Defrates. He was raised in Charlotte, Michigan and graduated from Charlotte High School in 1960 before joining the Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he worked for General Motors in Lansing, retiring in 1992. Joe loved the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman who especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed watching racing, the Detroit Lions and, his favorite team, the Detroit Tigers. He was always willing to help his neighbors, family and friends with his handy skills and positive attitude. He could build and fix anything. Many will remember Joe as a loving father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. Joe is survived by his daughters, Sherry DeFrates and Christine Finley; grandchildren, Miranda DeFrates, Teia (Corey) Conley and Chad Joseph Finley; great-grandchildren, Izaiah and Izaak Rodriguez; siblings, Beverly (Richard) Vincent, Judy Schultz, Carol (Dan) Hinckly, Cheryl DeFrates, Darryl (Judie) DeFrates and Kevin (Jan) DeFrates; many nieces, nephews and cousins; the mother of his children, Linda Regis; and special friend, Gary (Roberta) Brickley. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving nephews, Rick Soules and David LaPratt. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Mark Russell officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
