Kelly Jo (Kyes) Wells Shelby Township Formerly of Haslett, Michigan The woman we loved and knew as Momma or Aunt Kelly, and the glue that held so many of us together, lost her courageous 2 ½ year battle with breast cancer on March 19, 2013. She was born to Joyce C. and Walter K. Kyes on November 23, 1961 in Hancock, Michigan, the oldest of four children. Kelly was very caring and determined as a child, and remained that way throughout her life. Always striving to do the very best she was capable of, whether as a member of the Haslett High Swim Team, academic achievement or in the workplace; Kelly was a rock to so many of us. Upon graduation from Haslett High, she attended Michigan Technological University where she met and later married her loving husband of 30 years, Don Wells. Kelly's family was the center of her world. She was the coach or leader of many of her daughters' extracurricular activities, and if she wasn't there as a participant, she was always there as their supportive fan. For every hour she spent doing things for herself, she spent ten hours enriching the lives of those around her. To her family, she was extraordinary, a "Superwoman" and to herself, she was just being the best mother and wife she could be. Her family will always remember her wonderful sense of humor that kept them smiling always and a giving heart that knew no bounds. Kelly was preceded in death by her father Walter K. Kyes; her mother, Joyce C. Garrison; her sister, Kerry Lynn Kyes; nephew, Jackson Kyes and stepmother, Roberta (Bass) Kyes. She will be so greatly missed by her loving family: husband, Don; daughters, Lindsey (Matt) Ryan and Jordan Wells; stepfather, Tom Garrison; brothers, Scott (Suzi) Kyes and Jeffrey (Darcie) Kyes; stepbrothers, Dan (Karen) Bass, Sam (Laurie) Bass, Chris (Lynn) Garrison; and stepsister, Tonya Keith; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Kyes, Emma Kyes, Anna Kyes, John Kyes, Maddy Kyes, Cody Garrison, Brooke Garrison, Carson Keith, Dorsey Keith, Grace Bass, Sadie Bass, Kaylee Bass, Tracy (Cory) Lakusta, Dan (Lindsay) Bass; special friends, Alaina Matteson and Jon Feise; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Kelly's family will receive friends Thursday, March 21, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, Michigan. Contributions may be made in Kelly's name to the Walter Kyes Endowed Scholarship (Michigan Technological University). Please make checks payable to the Michigan Tech Fund, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931.
