Marvin J. Fongers died, with his daughter by his side, Monday, May 5, 2014 at the age of 86. He was born October 25, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Thomas and Gertrude (Wever) Fongers. Marvin attended Ferris State University then transferred to the Milwaukee School of Engineering, obtaining his degree in Electronics Engineering. Marvin served in the Army and worked for the State of Michigan, Department of Transportation retiring in 1988 with 32 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years Sandra; children, Mark (Marsha) Fongers of St. Johns and Leslie Fox of Haslett; grandchildren, Audrea Fox, Jordan (Tina) Fox and Jared Fox; step-grandchildren, Adam Alpine and April (Neal) O'Connell; a sister, Julia Nicloy and sister-in-law Erma Fongers both of Grand Rapids; several nieces and nephews; special friend Derek Baetz and special neighbors and friends, Dennis and Pat Koenigsknecht. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald, brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Fongers and son-in-law Kenneth Fox.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Keck- Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. Military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church 200 E. State St. Johns, MI 48879.
