R. Ann Herzberg Eaton Rapids Age 56, died peacefully at her home on September 13, 2013. She was born in Jackson, MI. Ann was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School and a National Merit Scholar. She received her BA from Michigan State University with high honors and was recognized for outstanding achievement by admission to Alpha Kappa Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma honors fraternities. She was a law school graduate from The Ohio State University. In her professional career, Ann first served as an assistant East Lansing City Attorney with the McGinty law firm. She was employed by the Michigan Court of Appeals for over 27 years and served as editor of the Michigan Appellate Digest for many of those years. Ann was a member of numerous professional associations and served as chair of the State Bar of Michigan Appellate Court Administration Committee. Ann was a great MSU basketball fan and season ticket holder for nearly three decades. She also enjoyed interior decorating, gardening and making friends on several internet communities. She is survived by her husband, Timothy Spalding, sons Benjamin and Robert Spalding, father Robert (Jackie) Herzberg and numerous friends and family members who were so helpful and supportive during her long illness. Suggested beneficiaries for donations are the Capital Area Humane Society, Hospice of Lansing or the Sparrow Cancer Center Giving Club. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
