Ramez Agha Mahjoory Okemos Born in Tabriz, Iran Dr. Ramez Mahjoory passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 10, 2013, in Okemos, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirin; three children, Amir and wife Jean, Rima and husband Salem, and Zahra and husband Tom; three grandchildren, AJ, Mia, and Cameron; three brothers, two sisters, nieces, nephews; and numerous family members and special friends. Dr. Mahjoory brought his family to the United States in 1965 to pursue his PhD from Michigan State University in Soil Science, which he earned in 1971. He served as an adjunct professor at MSU and was a Fulbright Scholar in Egypt and Jordan. His life-long career in soil sciences began in Shiraz, Iran, at Pahlavi University, where as a university professor he specialized in the study of soil and environmental sciences. He maintained his devotion to the needs of maximizing global soil potential to grow crops to feed individuals, particularly in underdeveloped countries. He supported numerous educational opportunities around the world and was a lifelong mentor to students globally. Dr. Mahjoory was blessed with a brilliant mind, a desire for learning, and great self-discipline in the midst of many changes in his life. He loved his family and innumerable friends, reaching out to all with his warm smile, infectious laughter, generosity, graciousness, encouragement, and strength of character. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. There will be a private family service officiated by Judge Robert Holmes Bell on Saturday, October 12. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
