Pastor Bob, 82, recently of Mason, Michigan, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Sparrow Hospital. Born on January 3, 1932 in Lansing, Michigan to Ernest and Nancy Jane (Musser), he was the youngest of 10 children. He is predeceased by brothers Archie, Billy, Roy, Don, Frank, Ernie Carpenter and sisters Edith Ryckman, Hazel Peterman. He is survived by sister Edna Haines (Floyd deceased) of DeWitt, Michigan.
He attended East Lansing High School. He joined the National Guard and later the US Navy and was honorably discharged on June 3, 1954 after serving in the Korean Conflict.
While stationed in Rhode Island he met his wife, Sandra Carpenter (wife of 60 years). The joys of their lives were born to them Rev. Robert W. (Sue) Carpenter Jr., Eaton Rapids, Kimberly (Ronald) Miller, Lansing, Maureen (Kim) Bowyer of Goodman, Missouri, Scott (Tonya) Carpenter Sr. of Alliance, Ohio, Greggory (Lisa) Carpenter Sr. of Minerva, Ohio and Hondo (Susan) Carpenter of Ionia. There are 35 precious grandchildren and 22 precious great grandchildren. (The lights of his life)
After retiring from Universal Steel Company and serving Mr. Jim Shapiro he answered the call to ministry and has faithfully and joyfully served that call ever since… currently at Cornerstone in Okemos.
Bob attended East Lansing High School, Lansing Community College, MSU (Metals Engineering Institute) and Berean University, Springfield, Missouri.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Monday, May 5, 2014 at Mt. Hope Church with viewing one hour prior. Visitation will be at Skinner Funeral Home, 101 West Jolly Road, Lansing, Michigan on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Church, 3654 Okemos Road, Okemos, MI 48864 or Cedar Street Church, 1705 Cedar Street, Holt, MI 48842.
