Robert Ward Messner East Lansing Robert W. Messner died November 13, 2013, after a short, but hard fight with cancer at the age of 87. Robert, the son of George and Vera (Slusser) Messner, was born in Mason, Michigan May 1, 1926. He was a resident of East Lansing since 1949, retired from the Michigan State University Maintenance Division of the Physical Plant after 40 years of service, and was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy in Guadalcanal. Robert was an outstanding woodworker, and loved to hunt, fish, and garden. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland, and sister, Patricia Wing. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife, June of 65 years; sons, Jon (Lisa) and Thomas; two grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Grew and Kimberly (Chad) Kwiatkowski; five great grandchildren, Grace, Annie and His name sake, Robert Grew, Jackson and Aubrie Kwiatkowski; and sister, Leora Belle Fry. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing Chapel, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing, Michigan 48823, with military honors to follow. Interment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason, Michigan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to Eaton Community Palliative Care, 2675 S. Cochran Rd., Charlotte, Michigan 48813.
