Roland "Jim" Valentine, Jr.

Roland "Jim" Valentine, Jr., formerly of Lansing, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014.  Roland was born May 22, 1927 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Floyd and Donna (Hoard) Valentine.  Roland joined the United States Navy during WWII.  He served on the LST 133 in the South Pacific.  Roland also served during the Korean War.  He worked in construction as a foreman for Fisher Contracting in Midland, MI and then as Vice President for Oxford and ELRAD out of Okemos, MI and Bradenton, FL.

He liked fishing, hunting and working on cars.  He also had a love of music and was a talented singer and guitar player.  Roland also like bowling and bowled on a league with his son, Jim, at Royal Scot in Lansing.  He retired to Harrison and joined a senior bowling league and bowled there until 2008.  He was also a member of the Harrison Moose and VFW.

Roland is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Yvonne (Clemens); his sisters Yvonne Mishler and Arlene Henrys, both of Lansing; and his brother Don Rae Valentine, of Ft. Myers, FL.

He is survived by wife Anna Mae (Thompson) of Tuscon, AZ and his sister Myrna Restainer, of Grayling.  Roland also leaves behind his children: Jim (Cheri) Valentine, of Leslie, Connie (Jim) Barnhart, of Holt, Gayle (Greg) Downs, of Harrison, Lisa (Edison) Valentine-Cummings, of Midland, and Jackie Valentine, of Vermontville; eleven grandchildren: Jimmy Jr., Shannon, Carrie, and Travis Valentine, Christy and Logan Barnhart, Justin (Tina) and Jamie Wichman, Courtney Valentine, Ashley St. John, and Brianna Foglesong; along with 10 great grandchildren.  He was known as uncle Tut by his many nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly.

A funeral service for Roland will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.  Family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 6-8PM at the Lansing Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the , Capital Area Region, 2111 University Park Drive, Suite 200, Okemos, MI 48864.  The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing.   On line condolences may be shared with the family at www.greastlansing.com.
