Vanasa McCallister Okemos Vanasa (Modisette) McCallister, born July 11, 1972 in Lufkin, Texas, passed away January 13, 2014. Vanasa was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, a member of Chi Omega, who majored in Psychology and English. She was a loving mother, wife and daughter. She loved animals with a passion and loved working with children. Vanasa worked in professional development and was a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club, United Way and Michigan State University. She lost her battle with a long illness and complications from chronic pain, and advocated for chronic pain suffers, helping many. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Jason McCallister; son, Noah; parents, Dee Modisette of New Bern, NC and Elaine Modisette also of New Bern, NC; and sister, Wendy (Hunter) Sorrells of Plainview, IL. There will be no services. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at aspca.org in honor of Vanasa McCallister.
