Vorma Jean "Jeanie" Johnson Lansing Age 76, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013. Jeanie was born March 28, 1936 in Decatur, Michigan, the daughter of Albert and Hazel Johnson. She was the youngest of five children. She grew up in Bay City, Michigan and graduated from Bay City Central High School, class of 1955. She later attended and graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a bachelor's degree in elementary and physical education. She also earned a master's degree in counseling from Michigan State University. Jeanie taught for over 25 years at Holt High School, working in the athletic dept. and starting the girl's athletic programs. She retired in 1994. She loved attending Indian Lake Nazarene Camp during the summers, where she owned a cottage. Jeanie loved the Lord and served Him well. She served as a volunteer at South Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years. She worked with teens, sang in the Choir, taught an Adult Sunday School Class, served as Missions President, Church Board Member, Local Missionary Council and she has served on the District Missionary Council as well. Jeanie was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, Robert Wayne and Henry Ford Johnson and 2 sisters, Florence Velta Backmun and Evelyn Mae Johnson. She is survived by her brother, Lowell Johnson, from Myakka City, Florida, a niece, Pam Falkner, also from Myakka City; niece, Bonnie Johnson and several other nieces and nephews, and her long-time friend, Catherine Piotrowski, 96, who was able to spend a week with Jeanie just before she died. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, 10:00 a.m. at South Church of the Nazarene, 401 W. Holmes Rd., Lansing. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Park.
